AssetWise provides great flexibility by allowing users to create fixed baselines, such as a functional baseline long before the physical baseline is created. For example, during the design phase of a project, before the physical item(s) exist.

To create a virtual item baseline, the structure type must be of class type Virtual Item Baseline.

A common practice by users is to copy an existing virtual item group and make the new one a type Virtual Item Baseline class, or to put the type Virtual Item Structure class under change and make the new revision a type Virtual Item Baseline class.

Once the related data has been validated and verified, the Virtual Item Baseline is created by approving the virtual item group.
